Honoring Outstanding Achievements

The ERP-HSG institutes two awards for outstanding student achievements, thereby underlining its commitment to academic excellence and the promotion of early-career scholars. The prize for the best Master’s degree result, the Jöhr Prize, is fully funded by the ERP-HSG thanks to a dedicated donation. The prize for the best Master’s thesis is co-financed by the institute at one third.

Since 2007, ERP-HSG has annually awarded the so-called Jöhr Prize. This award commemorates Walter Adolf Jöhr, the founder of our institute and former Rector of the University of St.Gallen. The prize is awarded for the best Master’s degree (MEcon) by the academic programme directors during the decentralized graduation ceremony in the autumn semester. The prize money is financed through a one-time dedicated donation in favour of ERP-HSG.

Once a year, the Department of Economics selects the best Master’s thesis from all graduates of the MEcon and MiQE/F Master’s programmes. The prize is awarded by the Rector of the University of St.Gallen during the Graduation Day in the autumn semester.

The prize is sponsored by the three institutes of economics:

ERP-HSG – Institute for Economic Research and Policy
SEW-HSG – Swiss Institute for Empirical Economic Research
SIAW-HSG – Swiss Institute for International Economics and Applied Economic Research
